Dear fellow hosts, I am not sure what you are talking about but reviews go both ways. I never bashed any guests. I too had 90% good guests but the 10% either caused damage or hit on me or they broke in my bedroom in the middle of the night or gave me 1 star revenge review because I insisted they leave at the check out time not later… Why bash the entire hosts population when all of us know how hard work it is and I personally don’t feel well, after I scrub the house clean to have someone destroy things and act entitled! Similarly I gave 90% of my guests 4 or 5 stars reviews. So if air removes the hosts capability to review that would be bad.
How about “better suited for a motel 6” ? Most US hosts would get it

I recently had guests who had all good reviews except for one. The review said they followed the rules, were pleasant in communication and left the place spotless, except the toilet was disgusting.
The guy spent a whole paragraph going on and on about the toilet. I though it was bad form. Since everything else with the stay went well, my guess it was a simple oversight. Maybe they were rushing before to check-out and forgot to flush or didn’t push the lever hard enough. Maybe they had food poisoning. Who knows?!
The host could have skipped the graphic details and maybe mentioned it in the private part of the review, if at all. Guests are humans.
Since the other reviews were great, I accepted the booking and it was fine.
I have the Saturday before Halloween open on my smallest house that sleeps 6 per my settings (3 queen beds and 1 full bed). I got a request yesterday morning from a guy that had 2 reviews with an overall of 3 stars. 1 good, but 1 bad - “While Matthew was courteous to communicate with he did not follow house rules and had a party. He did properly make amends.”
I approved his request and sent this It just expired about 2 hours ago.
“Your request states 1 guest only is that correct? Also as an FYI there will be no repeat of an unauthorized party at the Cottage as we live on the property too. So it would be shut down before it started.”
I think because it’s a unique situation of sharing our own homes that we have a chance to review guests. Bit if a guests had few bad reviews may be it’s a good idea he or she wouldn’t use Airbnb again . I once had a guests who had all bad reviews. I was on IB … he was as weird and exausting to host with me also as with other hosts .
Ah, I’m sorry this thread been resurrected because it’s an embarrassing reminder of my bad behaviour. My apologies again to KenH.
On the other hand, I guess it’s still a relevant topic. I still get newbie guests who don’t even know that hosts can review them and I still see weird and uncomfortably personal reviews from hosts. I’ve been thinking again about my sweet S Korean guests who were mortified by the mean review they received from a host. Particularly because that culture is generally so polite and respectful. If you are not able to tolerate or be patient with other cultures, personally I don’t think you’re suited to being an airbnb host. Or a human being, even.
My bad guests were mostly locals …
I had 2 bad reviews myself as a guest from Europian hosts. One was because I was late to check in by half hour traveling from.another country.
We’ve had one pair of driveway sleepers as guests. They came here with another couple who stayed in one of our Airbnb rooms. The second couple had a van that pulled a camper. Ahead of time, they asked if they could book for four somehow, and the camper couple would stay in our driveway. They didn’t need hookups but wanted to be able to use the bathroom.
We worked out a rate with them. They stayed in our driveway, used their friends’ bath in our house, and we provided them breakfast with their friends.
Because we had another couple staying in our other Airbnb room, that’s the only time we had six Airbnb guests here at once.
It was pretty cool.
I’d have no problem with it as long as they requested in advance and paid the nominal charge (usually $4-8) for second guest. They could even hook up to my outdoor hose and electric. I have a large off street parking space. But bringing a second guy and not saying anything until I greet you at check in doesn’t feel right. OTOH, sometimes I raise my price and don’t have the second person charge.
No, they will likely just create a new account unfortunately…
I see your pattern icon/avatar is back! I like it!
