Guests frequently booking without a last name

Sounds like he was looking for the No-Tell Motel?

The last name on a reservation always disappears once the guest has checked out. If you need to retrieve it for some reason, you can go to Account --> Transactions and download the csv of all the transactions. This document will sill have all of their information. I now make a note in my calendar with the full name and phone number, since that disappears as well.

We had a booking inquiry with a very strange name. I googled that name and there was no one in the world with that name. We declined the reservation and asked for a valid id showing name, address and photo and told them if it matched the booking we would accept. We heard nothing further. Why do Airbnb allow guests to request bookings using phony names? Hotels require proof of id so why shouldnā€™t hosts?

When I first started with air in late 2009, I had a guest book who called himself Doc woo woo. He was one of the best guests I ever had!

This was back in the good old days when both guests and hosts didnā€™t take everything so damn seriously. A lot more at stake now I think.

Iā€™ve been thinking a lot about whether I should have my full name on Airbnb, I just feel itā€™s too much information to have out in the public ā€¦

I actually have always just used my first name (with a . In the surname box) but am very happy to provide further details to hosts of required. Iā€™ve just removed my profile picture too.

A few years ago I had an online stalker and it was really freaky what he could find out from the snippets Iā€™d passed on in conversation.

The live in hosts have much more to lose with the whole name than the guests.
You out your picture, while name, describe your house (and your family, member of people living in the home etc), people know our address, get the house guide and know how to get to your home, and just cancel and lose some money after they already got the house guide and thatā€™s it for them.

I have no picture on my profile, I mean no picture of me and my family, but I am very personal to all inquiries so they know it is a person on the other side and I try to be as welcoming as possible in my messages.

I donā€™t want the son of the neighbors cousin and the sister of my company boss to know whatā€™s all about my home much less complete unknown locals who you never know what they might do.

I respect and applause those hosts who put pictures.
