Guest Wants to Have Packages Delivered

Careful,I think that it’s illegal to do anything with mail addressed to someone else other than writing: “Return to Sender, Addressee doesn’t reside at this address.”

Who is gonna know that you threw it out? No proof it was delivered in the first place unless it was Certified Mail that had to be signed for and in a case like that, I wouldn’t sign for it so it would go back automatically.

What she said. You don’t want to be a drug drop.

So many barriers to hosting, oh my they are doing DRUGS! sip sip from my glass of wine … I would not allow packages because I do not want a scammer to say they live there. I do not care what people do and if they do DRUGS while I drink my wine.

Ages ago, I found a syringe under the sofa after an Airbnb guest had left. At first I thought ‘uh-oh, what have we here?’ then thought ‘she’s probably diabetic but I have the money, they made no noise and the place is left in good condition. What do I care what she used the syringe for?’

As long as those factors are covered, payment, quiet and cleanliness, I have no concern at all what guests get up to in the apartments.

People with diabetes who use insulin generally do not leave syringes under furniture. I hope you mentioned it in the review. As a host, I would want to know that a guest irresponsibly discarded his/her syringes.

I’d like to know if it was a syringe with the needle or if the needle had been properly discarded in a sharps container and only the syringe was there. People admin oral meds to pets with syringes without needles too.

No, I didn’t. And shame on me because I’m always ranting on about the fact that hosts need to give honest reviews. Assuming that she was diabetic, I just thought that it was her personal business. I didn’t think it was something that would help or interest future hosts but I definitely take your point. It’s a good reminder for me to realise that what doesn’t bother some of us would be an issue for other hosts.

It was such a long time ago that I honestly can’t remember. I’ve a feeling that there was no needle but I couldn’t swear to it.

Interesting that you mention pets because a) I have to give our beloved cat an insulin shot twice a day and b) the guest who left the syringe did have two little dogs with her - I’d forgotten that.

The syringes are used without needles to squirt the med down the back of their throats. That was probably what you found. I agree with CeeBee that a legit user of a syringe (and it’s not just diabetes) would be very careful.

So it would have been pretty awful to mention in a public review that the guest left a syringe . I think it would be pretty tricky to mention that either way. I’ve had those medicine syringes too and could definitely lose one wrestling some medicine into a pet’s mouth. I would be livid about the implication of a public review mentioning ‘syringes’.

Absolutely, a syringe sans needle is a whole other thing! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello,

I have a couple staying at my home now. They are international travelers. The arrived a week ago and are staying for 34 days. It’s helpful because with Covid, I haven’t been working and really need the income. They have been getting several packages every day since they arrived. I actually am not staying there due to Covid, but my ring doorbell continues to show me these packages arriving. I asked them about it and they said it is personal items that they are receiving. Not sure what to do, but I just have that bad gut feeling. Any suggestions?

I would let them know you are uncomfortable with them receiving mail at your address for several reasons - 1. they are short-term renters and the possiblility of mail being late and showing up after they have left is a real possibility as the US mail sevice has slowed as of late and 2. you cannot guarentee the safe delivery of mail, packages may be stolen. For their peace of mind and safety they shoud rent a post office box. This way they can also leave a more efficient “forward” if they have mail show up after they leave.

The real reason, in my mind, is mail establishes residency (not a good idea for short-term rental as you don’t know what else your address will turn up on) and you don’t know if they are getting legal stuff or not. I wouldn’t use these in a conversation with them!
