I would decline. That’s a pretty serious accusation. The guest could also have replied to the review but it sounds like they didn’t post a reply.

Of course it’s possible, but, for reference, almost every single time I have left even a mildly negative review, I have then gotten a message from the guest swearing up and down that they don’t understand and don’t know why they got a bad review. One of them had left an armchair upside down :roll_eyes: And then there’s the ones who blame it on their friends and think that’s acceptable :roll_eyes:

We have a giant generator and a smaller one used for the trailer. I think even the larger one, it can’t handle the surge from the on demand electric hot water tank. So the only amenity lost will be hot water for 8 hours starting at 9pm.

I think, by withdrawing his request, he showed his guilt. If he felt like defending himself, I would have listened, and offered that… for 24 hours or less!

In the context of them having only 3 good reviews to counterbalance the awful one, I would decline. Would possibly be different if they had a 100 positive

Truly, I don’t understand why that is so terrible.

Years ago there was a host posted here a photo of the kitchen and a photo of the ‘trashed kitchen’ post-guests. There was a tea-towel out of place - it certainly wasn’t ‘trashed’. So it’s all relative.

Mind you, I’m strange. I use IB so everyone is accepted.

I had a girl request to book and one of the reviews was “better suited to a hotel”. I declined. She came back. I explained why I declined and she sent a detailed story of her version. I accepted. (never came b/c of Covid)

That is a world of difference. You don’t have to call a neighbor over to help you put a tea towel back in place. For reference this was a heavy upholstered armchair, not some MCM chair that can be turned upright with one hand.

Nearly all of the furniture was moved out of place and put into different rooms. It was a real hassle and not something any cleaner (myself in this case) should have to do, it took a long time and required calling in extra people. Turning an armchair upside down is not only bizarre but it is just not something you do in someone else’s home. I believe the kids call it an asshole-move. :no_mouth:

Well the guest thought it was terrible because he harangued me in multiple nasty messages and tried to get the review removed for merely mentioning,

"Guest had pleasant communication and his dog was well-behaved but he did move most of the furniture to different rooms and left an armchair upside down. Hosts may want to plan for extra re-setting time if booking this guest. "

Me too. I think most hosts use IB now, so not strange at all.

Yes, we need to be more clear.

Guest is better suited to stay in their parents basement.

Guest may be more comfortable in a barn considering they never closed the door.

Guest would be better suited in a clothing optional accommodation.

I find the Better Suited to a Hotel funny because most hotels would never put up with some of the behavior hosts end up enduring. If they tried to sneak their dog into a hotel that doesn’t accept pets, they would be escorted out by the security guard, ditto if they were having a party in their room with 20 unregistered guests.

If they damage something, the hotel just docks their credit card- they don’t have to go through the Airbnb song and dance claims process.

Guest is better suited to stay in a corner office with a personal assistant.

Guest is better suited to stay at a wedding reception with a free buffet, open bar and a magic confetti removing machine.

Guest may be more comfortable with brown sheets.

Many hosts, like many guests, do not read.

I’ve told the story here of the guest who instant booked me for same day arrival early one morning. I was awakened and as soon as I saw the 4 something star review average (on 16 reviews) I leapt out of bed and came to my computer. She had multiple negative reviews mixed in and was clearly staying locally for several months. So I used a penalty free cancellation. I checked on her several times over the years and did so again as this post reminded me. She accumulated 49 reviews over about a 1.5 year period with lots of negatives. She hasn’t had a review since Aug 2019 so maybe she finally settled somewhere (looks like San Diego).
