Hey @dcmooney,
I just wanted to say, nice post. You seem super cool. That’s it from me…
ha ha, thanks. I do love hosting and I’m learning so much about being open to what’s happening, being flexible and open and giving. In America, I would suspect, we are much more about ‘mine mine mine’ when it comes to our personal space, our things. We are trying to live in a different way (based on our faith).
I’m blown away by the interesting people we meet, and what we learn. We just had a very ordinary looking family show up from Michigan. They sat down and told us about some of their interests and they are crazy interesting. We really learned a lot from our guests from Mumbai. It was great for my kids to hear about their arranged marriage, the workings of the caste system in their lives, and to smell and then taste their cooking. My kids are home schooled so how wonderful is it that we are able to bring the world to them.
Hope to make it your way some day!!
@dcmooney - I love your positive attitude! I love hosting too and I meet some truly wonderful people. I know that this forum is a great place for hosts to vent about ‘less than ideal’ guests and various problems but I always enjoy reading your positive posts
I’d never thought before how great it must be for your kids. That’s a real bonus and I’m sure that it’s something they’ll remember and look back at fondly.
That’s a bit of a generalization. A quick google tells me Asia has population approx.
4.427 billion. That’s more than half the population of the human race.
It’s unlikely one could make any general statement about such a large group of people, other than “they live in Asia”.
Gawd… that would drive me insane. I have 2 rooms in my home that I Air, but I would never let anyone cook in my beautiful new kitchen! Let alone use my pans or my food! I guess since you are a bit remote people would have to cook, but I’m not sure how I would deal with it. Good luck!
Gee your kind-- id tell them t leave. Yes it is rude and who wants low lifers i their private house just for a few bucks.
More kudos for your leadership in encouraging a sensitive and mutually respectful dialogue oriented to a win-win solution. Yes, do this.
I used to get tons of interesting guests from cool places (Prague, Estonia, etc) at the beginning of Air… Sadly now, I don’t have that so much.
Agree. We don’t allow instant booking because we prefer long term guests and need to work these things out before they book. Agree with chinese (and Indian, Pakistani and other) parents coming to care for children, even adult children. It’s all about the food. So get clear on that up front.
In our house, I do most of the cooking at night and invite our guests (they pay me weekly for food), and once in a while they cook for us.
you have deposit right…u can cup the storm
@konacoconutz
GREAT IDEA!! You can have a New Years Party for them, and then celebrate Boxing Day!! Heck, I’d buy your Valentine’s day cards now, to make sure you have enough~~
You see you need to be clearer on your listing and explaining house rules to guests. Airbnb is rife with vague uncertainties and after you host long enough you realize this. You may also realize that no one would want to rent your place if they were aware of all your expectations in advance.
No you are wrong. I am very clear about my rules and expectations and I have 100% occupancy
Sorry I’m joining in late. My 2 problems are Kitchen and Laundry we charge $10 to do laundry but we do it for them when they’re gone. It beats them lingering in the house for hours with the excuse of laundry. WE have had guests brake 2 laundry machines as they put in sand from beaches in their clothes, red dirt and bad lingering clothes that are absolutely disgusting.
Some guests are down right rude and disrespectful and do whatever they please even when there are rules in place they just seem to ignore it. They don’t care they are on vacation and they have the attitude they have paid for it and if your rude to me I can just write you a bad review and get away with it. The people are getting worse day by day it seems. Then they complain after that about the value. You knew what you were booking. You saw the price. You saw the pics, everything is in the description and then want to bring the hosts down but giving less value stars. It seems even if we lower our rates to $10 a night someone will still complain about the value. When a hotel room in Hawaii starts with $200 + taxes and fees for a 3 star. Come on People!!!
