Everthing going OK until this morning

All the hotels I’ve stayed at require a valid ID at check in, which they compare to the name on the booking and to me as I stand there in front of them. They also run a credit card even if I’ve prepaid. They have me sign a contract before they give me the key. And they have cleaners that go in my room pretty regularly, as well as staff at the front desk and wandering through the halls listening and looking for issues (in addition to other responsibilities, usually). Some of these requirements for me as a guest are waived or satisfied if I join their loyalty program. They also have non-refundable and refundable rates, in which they manage their risk (non-refundable is cheaper since their risk is lower).
