What happens when the host pays the whole shot and the guest cancels? Does the host get the fee back?

Since the host is the one to pay it my GUESS is that it will depend on the host’s cancellation policy…unless they also change the policy on that portion of it. Am looking forward to to @JohnF ’s answer from his current experience.

The only reason I can think of to think that a 1099 will change tax liability is if you haven’t been reporting your earnings

I agree and also know that many amateur hosts that I know are in that boat.

I have also experienced this…I know this feeling! Just as an aside…theoretically, I believe the term “third world” is not really relevant anymore. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the “second world” does not exist, and as a result, neither does the third world. I believe the appropriate term now is “developing world”. Ok, I will take off my professor hat (I apologize…sometimes it is tough to leave work behind…).
