I’m a hater on hot tubs, have to admit. I think they are gross but the bigger reason are the STRs in the mountains (where I live now) and hot tubs are drained on, or into, the ground because sewer doesn’t reach that far. The thought of the chemicals running into the mountain streams that feed our lake makes me sad.
Firstly, especially since Covid, its a must to empty and clean a hot tub between guest’s. However, to offeset the costs, i leave the hot tub as an optional extra. Cleaning is done by our cleaning team, theres the water, chemicals, filters, labour and the very high cost of electric now running here at about £20 a day. It used to cost about £7 a day. Since its been optional, weve been able to manage the costs well, and we also take a security deposit to ensure swift resolution of issues during checkout and deter against poor behaviour and damage. All payments are done inside airbnb as an extra charge and refunds also through that process. I also flex the costs depending on group size and length of stay. But, i could not imagine getting into a hot tub thats been used by another group or multiple groups and its just common sense to empty and clean between guests. Weve installed a hot external tap so that we can turn this around within 3 hours. Works well.
How are you charging a security deposit?
Do you use a channel manager?
I used to go to a gym in a hotel where a friend worked. The hotel spa was available to gym users. She told me to never use it on a Monday before it was drained, cleaned and refilled as the weekend guests have sex in it and leave condoms etc. I rarely use public baths because I know what those dirty fers are up to.
