Closed Once Again

All all all vaccines have risks & side effects.

If someone has a history of a blood clotting disorder or Afib, it makes sense to opt for a different choice if available. However for most of us the risk is so small (at one time it was 3 out of 3Million developed clots), it shouldn’t scare anyone away from the vaccine.

While appreciate J&J offering free boosters, I suspect part of their motivation is to help mitigate damages from asbestos in talc ongoing lawsuits.

What I have is extremely low blood pressure and varicose veins. That’s why I wouldn’t get the vaxes that have caused the blood clotting issues, although I realize proportionately, those cases have been few compared to the number of jabs given.

Here in Northern California we are still completely blocked. Our last guest was Feb of 2020. Our region is solidly in the purple, for the past few weeks. Don’t get a heart attack or a car wreck, there are no beds available in the hospitals. We have a mandatory mask rule again. No clue when we’re going to reopen. Also our region is running out of water, wells are dry in the most popular destinations. California is on fire again and we are wrapped in a smoke cloud again. When this happens we normally notify our guests that they can ask Air for a cancellation. We have a new lingo here - BC is “Before Covid” and this is Covid Two. 2020 was Covid 1. When this all sorts itself out we will still be here, with any luck we will not be too old to host. We do miss having guests here, and sharing the amazingness of our location with people who want to unplug and sit on our mountaintop to recharge. Yep, we are all in this together!

I have very low blood pressure and A-fib. I am on blood thinners and also have an autoimmune disorder. Of course I’m getting that vaccine asap, which I did February 2020, Moderna, it was a breeze. With my potential for health issues I am not about taking any chances. Yes, I have taken flu shots for 35 years (no colds or flu all that time since doing that) and yes, when I travel to Asia or other regions where appropriate I always get my shots. I was thrilled to have hepatitis vaccines - much more convenient than gamma globulin. My CDC Yellow Card is filled!

I had just reopened in July and had 2 guests come and go, but now am closed again. I had another guest who was supposed to check in this weekend but she cancelled because she was exposed to COVID and didn’t want to risk spreading it to me. Makes me wonder how long it’ll be until I’ll feel comfortable opening, as not all guests would have been as honest as this guest and I don’t want to take any chances.

I’m a home host and our county just moved into the Widespread category or “purple tier”. August is completely booked, and September about 7 days shy of booked. :flushed:

I am waiting for CS. to get back to me to see about cancelling the late August reservations, and, if feasible, September as well. Anyone been through this (recently, because of Delta variant)yet?

Any guidance will be appreciated, as the CS rep & Resolution Specialist seemed clueless, and I’m not thinking they’ll let me do any contingency cancellations…

As expected, AirBnb isn’t allowing contingency cancellations (by host). Since that would go both ways, would I be able to issue refunds if guests want to cancel. If so, should I contact them and offer to do so, if the can find another suitable accommodation?

Airbnb handles the refunds. You haven’t been paid for these reservations.

I do recommend that you look for equivalent or better accommodations.

When I needed to get a reservation canceled earlier today, I first found a cheaper, closer Airbnb that was a complete apartment (ours is a home-share). And it was available for the guest’s dates.

I sent a link to the guest as part of our conversation. The guest was thrilled with the recommendation and was fine with canceling.

Thank you - great suggestion. And thanks for the reminder that AirBnb is in charge of refunds until I’m fully paid.

I speed read it, did I miss the part about treatment? Building up the immune system? Getting off toxic food?

Probably not, since just about nobody talks about it. The war on the poor, brown and black people. Dwarfs the Holocaust. Over 4 million likely died from Covid in India alone.

Recently saw an interview with Fauci claiming we can’t use existing meds because that would leave patients who depend on those meds with no medications. Makes sense, in Feb 2000. Just like falsely proclaiming that masks don’t work so the hospitals would have masks at that time.

Now it’s 1.5 years later, we have countless studies for various meds that keep patients out of hospitals and still no “recommended” treatment.

It’s so depressing to read about so many people dying because they’re not given meds.

I just don’t spend much time, if any, at the rental the day guests leave. And I wear a mask so I don’t spread it.

It’s not a big deal for hermits like me.

The article has good information the current state of masking. Potential treatments & therapies are for another article.

That was a very old interview, from over a year ago. About a med that doesn’t work for COVID, but is badly needed by patients with malaria and lupus.

Science depends on data. At the beginning, there was little data about the virus and how it spread. We didn’t have much verifiable data about the Delta variant until it had spread enough to have statistics, and then recommendations changed. And they will change in the future, unless “freedumb” idiots stand in the way.

Yes— Hydroxychloroquinine is a highly toxic medication used for treatment of malaria & autoimmune diseases like Fibromyalgia & MS.

Even a slight overdose can trigger organ failure.

After it was suggested it could help, it disappeared off the shelves in countries with less restrictive prescription laws, and was selling for huge mark ups. It was unavailable for those who needed it.

From The NY Times
“ Some associates of Mr. Trump’s have financial interests in the issue. Sanofi’s largest shareholders include Fisher Asset Management, the investment company run by Ken Fisher, a major donor to Republicans, including Mr. Trump.”

Adding those who died because The Dotard lied again (!) to the body count.

I would contact the guests and see if they are interested in cancelling and see if they will initiate the cancellation with Airbnb. It would ding your metrics if you do a host-initiated cancellation and it works out better if it’s a guest cancellation. I have a strict cancellation policy and had a guest recently tell me they were exposed to COVID right before checking in and they asked if I’d let them cancel and get their money back. I told them they can cancel but that they need to contact Airbnb for the cancellation and refund since Airbnb handles all the money, but I put in writing that I authorize the return of the nightly fee and cleaning fee (I’m not sure how Airbnb handles their service fees so I didn’t make any comments related to that). Airbnb ended up mediating between the two of us via the messenger to confirm that I’m ok with the guest cancellation and return of her rental fees.

If the guest isn’t willing to cancel, you can still do it on your end but it will affect your Superhost status and it puts an automated review on your page saying you cancelled.

I asked a guest to cancel once and they had a question so they contacted Airbnb and I got chided by Airbnb and basically told not to do that again. Airbnb can’t really flag these requests but if the guest contacts Airbnb it stirs things up.

Yes. That was a nightmare. I have RA & it’s a necessity for me. It was crazy when we suddenly had so much trouble getting it. BTW, and friend of mine sent me an article about gargling with Listerine a couple of times a day to slow or kill the colonization of the virus in your throat to reduce the viral load in your lungs ultimately. It just so happens I do use it twice a day (have for years), but I thought this was interesting, especially if you are a host who cleans your own place and are looking for ways to reduce risk. Something to Google…

I’ve rinsed my mouth and gargled with a splash of hydrogen peroxide and a couple drops of tea tree oil in a half cup of water for years. Also kills bacteria and viruses.

We just received a cancellation due to the guest that booked, one of the members of her group caught Covid and is now on her deathbed. So the trip is postponed.
