Changing a reservation with Smart Pricing - Host as guest insight

I’m a superhost in Washington State and planning a trip to Europe this fall. I had to change a longstanding ABB reservation for Paris - made six months ago. The host has his pricing set to Smart Pricing (which I do not use). I made the reservation when the demand was low and got a great deal. My change (of one day) meant that the whole booking got cancelled and rebooked at the Smart price when the demand was high - which cost me hundreds of dollars more. The host was really great about it and sent me a refund so I’m paying at the first price. So my lesson learned is to book early and don’t change the reservation. My earnings from ABB is paying for the entire trip for myself, hubby, and grandson. What a great way to make some extra retirement income!
