Sorry @Kittyp for this horrible experience. I’m wondering why the description of the behavior has to be tip toed around. Describing it as it’s described in your post seems appropriate to me. I’d put this in my review:
After being rejected he apologized but continued to try to talk to me and after I retreated to my locked room in an effort to protect myself he went to his room and feel back to sleep, and subsequently checked out 2 hours late.
UGH. Some SOB does that to me they are going to get shot.
I understood it was to avoid the review being challenged and possibly pulled? After all, everyone (except kitty) only has one side of the story. Mind you, reading it again… ffs, you’re right. He needs both barrels.
Funnily enough, that was close to my original review, Karma! I know it sounds a bit like I’m tip-toeing around - but in fact I’m simply being a bit blunt. I think the fewer emotions, the better.
I didn’t say that… the article did. Just so we are clear!
In my 20s however, I might have thought the same as this writer. That’s why this article resonated so well. That could have been me – Totally. I have had that happen! And didn’t defend myself!
This is absolutely appalling behavior on the part of your guest and Airbnb. This guy should be kicked off the platform immediately. He may actually be hunting for single female hosts to prey upon. I’m so sorry as I feel like you were victimized twice. I hope Trust & Safety gets their act together. It should never have taken them over a week to reply to this situation.
I wonder how large the trust and safety area actually are - when you think about the millions of bookings and the issues that can arise. I think they would be inundated.
@Kittyp I agree with smtucker. Although not my mother tongue, my English is more than OK. However to understand “sleazy behavior” correctly, I would need much more context. With this wording it really isn’t clear what actually happened.
Well get a load of this one… unfortunately after successfully hosting 8 guests I ended up hosting a Sociopath who not only invaded my space the duration of his stay, ending up physically assaulting me, vandalized my property, stole items and refused to return my keys which he still has.
A traumatic and terrifying experience given the dangerous world we now live in. I attempted to contact Airbnb via telephone and E-mail for 2 weeks before finally speaking to someone.
Airbnb response don’t call, don’t write, don’t E-mail… we will not respond and your account is blocked. No explanation! Cruel, Hurtful, Depraved, Inhuman and unconscionable!
This is like (NO DIFFERENCE), watching someone getting mugged, beaten and thrown to the ground, and responding to this situation by going over and repeatedly kicking the person, spitting on then just leaving the person there in pain. It boggles the mind!
A man physical attacked in his own home and Airbnb says get lost… don’t bother us… your account is blocked! Wrap your head around that one!
That’s the even further insult of it, seems zero regard for the host! That
man is probably still using their service, and I am the guilty party.
Vexing, Perplexing and Surreal…
Police are and have been involved since day of incident… getting reports
frustrating and exacerbating an already insufferable scenario!
Whether they wake up unblock my account or no, once I have the Police and
911 formal printed version of report incidents not only Airbnb will get it,
every Toronto Media outlet will get it along with an over 200 page dossier
on Airbnb. Hopefully before summer travel season really kicks in.
You just don’t get to treat people with such depraved inhumanity!
Mike, I just read your story on another thread. Unbelievable. I just hope this hasn’t caused you serious money flow issues. Keep fighting on and take it to the media for sure! They leap on any opportunity like this to vilify any of the controversial tech start-ups.
I gave up Website work to open my heart and home to Airbnb and hosting and
yes suffering SERIOUS financial hardship due to Airbnb’s insensitive and
cruel treatment. I have never witnessed such treatment in my life… they
are worse than the sociopathic liar I had here!
