Ditto…………202020……2020
Yep, just did that two weeks ago. Went to my chamber of commerce and snagged brochures. I FINALLY got a notebook with clear plastic sleeves and put them all in there, with tabs. My older clientele loves to be able to look at a menu vs getting a QR code and going online. I’ll sanitize the notebook but not the brochures.
I once had to stay in a pretty nasty motel in Daytona. (We arrived late at night and hadn’t booked anywhere in advance).
The bathroom had those strips … and a bunch of cockroaches were on them. Not fun. ![]()
Just to chime in, Covid cases were up to a little shy of 29,000 in the US yesterday.
Anyone want to reconsider not hosting unvaccinated guests?
It’s going to get worse with the Delta variant jumping the vaccinated. It’s already happening and not getting much press.
I read this to mean will some hosts now ask guests to be vaccinated? Don’t hold your breath. The magical thinkers aren’t influenced by facts.
For myself it means remaining mostly closed. I’m getting about 5 nights a month booked by friends or former guests who contact me directly. When I open the calendar I’m going to continue with a one or two night buffer. My listing says I prefer vaccinated guests but I have no way to enforce a requirement. So the question is one of balancing risk with need for money.
It is getting some sensationalized press with headlines: “ Vaccinated family gets Covid” (implies vaccine worthless). In the article it will mention its Delta but headline readers won’t see it
The headline (or variation) is something like “25 people died after getting vaccine” followed by something like, 10 died in a train wreck, 5 died in a house fire, 10 died while under hospice care for stage 4 cancers.
So tired of it.
Glad I avoid the main stream press.
What I’m seeing in news is that cases are going back up. And they shouldn’t be, especially in summer. It’s alarming that people are getting covid after socializing in close contact outdoors and vaccinated. As far as national averages go we’re back to where we were in June of 2020. That’s just fact, not fear mongering.
That’s why I’m not getting on a plane, not going inside anywhere crowded with people I don’t know, not doing much airbnb, not eating in restaurants, etc. And even the outdoor music festival I’m planning on going to that’s supposedly not crowded may be off my list. We’ll see where we stand in 2 months.
About a month ago when things were looking pretty good, I booked a flight for mid-Sept. I know it’s still 2 months away, but things are really not looking good. I may cancel and just eat the ticket but will wait a bit to see what happens.
Very few stores I go inside of and I always wear a mask, but I’m one of the few except at a couple of them.
Which airline? Last I checked American Air still had their more liberal covid policy in place where you can rebook for a later date. Southwest always has that policy.
It is American, but pretty sure I got a no cancellation ticket. Will check into it. I booked early because I thought tickets, like rental car prices would go through the roof. Don’t usually fly American but they had way better timing than my usual, Delta (not as in the delta variant. haha).
I so wanted to go in September back to the state I lived in for 39 years and haven’t been since my cross country moving began 7 years ago. Want to hike at Mt. Rainier and visit lots of old friends.
Definitely. In the UK and here in Spain the figures are shooting up.
Locally, it’s young unvaccinated folks who are the main victims, and as regards Scotland, it’s a similar demographic.
We’ve just had Saturdays check in cancel due to our high infection rate here in Jerez. She was very apologetic, but had decided she didn’t want to risk it. It was a high value booking, and I can see her point, but I’m still pretty pissed off over it.

This is not the ‘main stream press’, but the ‘right wing victim’ press. If you watch Faux news you will hear sensationalism like this every day.
She’s still entitled to a refund?
Sadly yes, BDC fully flex rate plan.
TBH, most of the cancellations we’ve had this year have had the dates rebooked, some at a higher rate, so we’ve been fortunate. This one is probably just a little bit too close to check in to fill.
