That’s helpful, I wasn’t sure what happens. If her review is removed, I was concerned mine would be as well. I did stick to facts and kept my tone civil.
One of her complaints was that I didn’t text! My work cell doesn’t have it for pt privacy issues. I see no need to have another cell.
If this is one of her requirements she needs to have it in her listing. I know when I was working full time and doing the dog boarding and airbnb I needed people to be able to text me. If they didn’t text I wouldn’t have wanted them as a client. When I went to New Orleans two years ago I was meeting people who don’t text, one didn’t even have a cell phone for use in the US. Very inconvenient. That doesn’t mean you have to right to a smooth airbnb experience but since it is somewhat unusual you should let hosts know.
I did advise her from the start as I know it’s assumed everyone does. But I have a cell and email.
As a host I make it very clear in my listing and on all messages that Texting is not possible. I also tell people that I’m not online 24/7, my job and lifestyle don’t work with that. You will never find me glued to a cellphone, checking every notification. I’m not on any list of people ie like emergency responders that require 24/7 response in minutes, I don’t carry the nuclear codes!. No one will suffer if they wait 8 -14 hours for me to tell them the hot tub is working!
I took three calls to my phone, when 20 minutes away, where I had to pull off the road. She told me to where to get keys at reception. I stupidly assumed that plan was concrete. I returned onto the very busy 12 lane highway at the peak traffic time and continued to drive as fast as possible. Then my phone rang again, two times. I ignored the calls, as I would have ignored texts.
It’s illegal to use mobile phones when driving, text or voice. I couldn’t imagine that any further communication was critical.
I have worked in health care for 40 years, been oncall for home and hospital births, now on call for palliative care, urgent pain needs, when people die, so I can and do respond promptly to calls with a cell or pager.
I should have found a new place, but I’m juggling too much and took a risk, rather than give myself another thing to do. Based on reviews it didn’t seem a big deal. It may be a good thing it happened to me, as I have more experience in problem solving than some other guests. From what I see posted here, there are some guests who really shouldn’t be let out without a competent adult keeper.
I’m going to be far more sceptical of reviews. More fiction than fact.
I’ve recently become more cynical about them as well. I won’t restrict myself to only superhosts but anyone I stay with is going to have to have dozens of good reviews.
