An Important Message To Hosts All Over The World

In June Sarah? Not next year, wouldn’t be closing it, since now on 2nd island (first done) so guests could split up by islands (only 80 feet from each other, connected via pier.)

Okay hubby, get a huge bonus this spring. We’re taking a 2 week road trip with the kids. Too bad we wouldn’t know if we could afford it until February. Maybe we’ll book in February when we have the cash for whenever you have available

I’m trying to rent a house in Costa Rica for a week. I was “declined temporarily” because of some problem with accepting online payments. They (the property manager, not VRBO) said they would contact me in a few days when they are ready for me to book it. It’s annoying me greatly. I spent hours over the course of the last week deciding which property I wanted and now I have to wait! Another VRBO inquiry went completely unanswered.

@Sarah_Warren February happens to be the finest month of the year in Belize.

@Mearns I’m trying to rent a house in Costa Rica for a week because your place isn’t big enough. What’s this about a 2nd island?

Oh, I can create another island, since the existing one now is only 1/5 of an acre and the true island area is 1.5+ acres, or 6 times that size. I get so many inquiries for larger groups . So have two separate islands at least 100 feet away from each other, connected by a walkway… Many, many guests have suggested it, but always say to keep the model as is - one single entity, never mix strangers, which I totally agree with.

That’s extraordinary and yet not surprising. I am curious - what made you use VRBO and not Air?

I want a 5-6 bedroom house for 8-14 people and there are very few houses that size on Airbnb. And almost no one instant books the kind of place I’m looking for and I don’t blame them.

This is the place I’m trying to get

Wow. This is indeed a cool place, the height of luxury) and not outrageously expensive. I spend a lot of time in that area in the late 70’s, bet has changed somewhat but still looks good. BTW. in Nicoya Peninsula (northern Costa Rica), the beaches are even more stunning, and beautiful things to see.

DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN! May I come? I promise I will do the dishes and pick up after myself. (I had a pilates teacher who owned a place in CR and he rented it out on flipkey - why flipkey I have no idea.) If I were you I would send “Brad” - if that is his real name - another very nice note asking Pretty Please.

I’m pretty happy with Air myself. Considering how amazingly huge they’ve gotten in a such a short time, it’s not surprising we’ve got to listen to that recorded music. I’ve had a couple of emergencies with guests I wanted removed asap and it worked out OK. For things that aren’t that urgent the best way to get answers very fast if through their Facebook site.

If I don’t hear from him soon I may start looking again. There are quite a few very lux places for 750-900 a night…In the summer. If you have any more tips for me, I’m all ears.

LOL. Nice, huh? Brad is the videographer, not the property manager. I spend a lot of time looking and once I decided I really have my heart set on it. But as I told Mearns there are a lot of very nice places for around the same price. If this falls through I’ll find another place that’s fine, maybe better. I’m quite content to be a budget traveler but this is for my 59.5 birthday/retirement from teaching/accessing my retirement money penalty free. I’m inviting 10-15 of my closest friends to share the house with me and I’m paying for the house. It’s a once in a lifetime event (I think, who knows I have a lot of life left). Too bad you didn’t “meet” me sooner.

Looking at Nicoya Peninsula for such places now, good things there (gorgeous coves, green turtle beach runs, fabulous nature, trees by the beaches laden with massive lizards, Guanacaste interior, etc) Other great areas are Boca Del Toros, Panama. Mahahual, Mexico., below it, reef only 200 yards away.

59.5? Time to splurge!

I am planning on retiring at 59.5, too, although I will likely do another six months into my 60th year, because it will give me another year of service on my pension. I am 57 now. I can BARELY stand waiting. So I surely understand the feeling. Enjoy. You have EARNED it.

I think we should all post photos of ourselves in our teens, 20’s and 30’s …
In a private thread of course. Beautiful hosts

@Maggieroni - I’m game!
