The wainscoting is a great idea but a a pretty good project. A chair rail might offer some of the same protection from the tall suitcases. You could also take the suggestion of a light neutral color just on the bottom to hide the occasional scrape. People have many reasons for large suitcases tjat can be hard to maneuver.

Not sure it’s wainscotting but parts of the corners of entrance way to the apartment and in the rooms edges on the wallls that are prone to being hit by bags. Seeing in some hotels how they protect the corners with steel plates I had some large white perspex sheets made up I can stick around those corners and vulnerable walls with double sided tape that provides some protection that I can easily remove later if required.
