ALL SET - NOT GOING TO ALLOW DOGS Allowing dogs on bookings - setting up and advise

Do hosts generally accept pets because they want to make more money? I thought they’d do that because they are animal lovers, taking additional risks of having damage done to their property. Dog owners especially should know how many other dog owners claim “he just wants to play” when in fact the dog has been poorly trained or has behavioural issues.

Carpet and accepting animals is a bad mix unless you’re keen on constantly running a wet carpet cleaner in your place. Drool, pee etc. would be a constant risk to not be instantly noticed taking a bigger risk of non-pet guests figuring out that in some hidden corner a mess had been made previously.

Not worth the headache.

My goal was to get more bookings. I’ve been running my STR for 9 years and in all that time, I have had consistent bookings about 8 months a year with Aug - Oct back to back bookings. In the winter I used to get a lot of Canadians too. This year my bookings are down 50 percent because of Trump’a policies related to international intimidations along with folks in the US feeling the economic pinch.

If I had allowed pets, then I would probably be back to my normal bookings but if the first two were examples, I would be getting people who claim “service dog”.
