AirBnb and politics

It’s a slippery slope though, isn’t it? Someone will equally decline you because you’re wearing a pink hat in your profile photo. And hey presto, we have complete polarisation where people of differing opinions don’t talk to each other any more. And then one side “wins” and you have - ta dah! - Soviet USA.
Depressing. Where’s that thread about one-liners…

Yup, which is why I don’t use what I think someone’s politics are to decide whether i host or not. It’s one reason why I like instant book - it keeps my nose clean.

Now if someone chooses not to book with me because they’re not comfortable that I mention I’m an activist in my bio, that’s their loss. But I want them to be comfortable, and I don’t hide my politics around my house, so if they’re not going to be comfortable in a house that thinks black lives matter, then it’s on them.

I don’t hide that I have a husband who lives on site. Some people might not want to book with me if they are uncomfortable with an adult male sharing their space.

Both my husband and my politics are crucial to me and are much in evidence in my home. Why not be clear about both to guests?

I was very depressed when I found a MAGA hat in the trunk of my sister’s car after the election… We suspected… but now we know. :weary::weary:

I’m sorry.
I think a lot of us are grieving all sorts of things in the aftermath.

I had to unfriend a few people and even had a kerfuffle with my cousin. They all had suggested I leave the country if I didn’t like the outcome.

Good self-selection strategy!

WOW (yet another time when I’m so very grateful to be Canadian)!

He’s kind of got a point about N Korea, though, don’t you think?

:scream: Joke. But that’s the way it’s going, isn’t it? Orwellian times for sure.

Cheeto Benito has a nice ring to it, too.

@konacoconutz, @Magwitch A few years ago I watched the movie “Idiocracy” and thought it was ridiculous and “this would never happen”. Sure enough…

I’ve got to say that I never thought I’d see the day when I’d be nodding in agreement with the Iranian President.

Iran was on our bucket list to visit. I’ve heard 'tis fabulous but there are so many sanctions that you can’t use credit cards, it’s all cash. Plus getting a visa would be difficult. All the Iranian people I’ve ever met have been lovely!!

Yeah, I have Iranian friends and they’re pretty awesome!

Let’s play Stereotype Bingo!

Anyway, despite her forum ID, @annanyc is hosting in Albuquerque.

My bad on the location, although she herself did say that the conversations tend to be “very, very left”.

I only caution that in some countries, like Australia, liberal means Liberal party or other conservative, right wing political parties, some members of which are anti-immigration, multiculturalism and marriage equality. Thus I don’t use this phraseology anymore.

I don’t know how many potential guests read the host profiles, but you could put something in there, about your lifestyle and your acceptance of all people. I do have it in mine, and a couple of guests have mentioned it in a positive way.

And I would have probably made the same assumption based on the name. Just a gentle reminder that Liberals/progressives/socialists are everywhere as are conservatives. She’s in NM with a Republican governor and Trump is from NYC. LOL.
