I like that. I will use words like that. Once thing I like about this forum is that there are always plenty of responses to queries and amongst the noise ( ) there are always nuggets to be found.
Thanks

In my view reviews can get unnecessarily punitive. Save that type of review for when it is truly warranted. I would review something along the lines of, āPleasant family group, would host them again.ā I think most hosts would realize from that wording that they didnāt exceed your expectations, but they are solid (house is still standing). If there are things you expect at check out, put them in writing as check out instructions for the future. Send a PM if there are any key issues to communicate to the guests for their future reference, e.g., āThanks again for choosing our place. We noticed the suite door was not locked after check out - something to keep in mind for future Airbnb stays.ā
Agree. You are a host of a hotel like entity. People may move things around. You are not their parents. I donāt think a negative review is appropriate.
Hello,
I agree with not giving a negative review but being an ambassador. Parents of toddlers I give a lot of leeway to as I used to be oneā¦both a toddler and a parent of a toddler. They have a lot on their plate and usually my place is not as clean after toddlers accompany their parent(s). I charge a cleaning fee and sometimes you have very little to do and sometimes more. In the end, it all evens out, usually.
I had a guest go home early as she had her two toddlers and realized, in a new environment she was always finding something that needed to be put up, put away or cleaned. It gets very tiresome for such a parent and I feel a lot of compassion for traveling parents of toddlers.
Hope this helps!
I would just give them private feedback but not a public review because they are new. I always appreciate it when guests give me private feedback about something I can do better rather than a bad review.
We have only been host since the beginning of June our experiences have been for the most part very positive. We have had many many guests, and are now super hosts.
About a month ago I took the advice of Airbnb lowering my price for an empty few days and it was quickly filled by a individual and his young daughter.
This young man had stayed in about 10 airbnbās in our area. For the most part he had positive reviews. But itās funny how two negative reviews can color your expectations. Because I had never had a serious problem with a guest I became concerned and actually researched the individual. I found that he was a tattoo artist, that in itself was no problem to me. As long as he follows the house rules no smoking no pets no parties no shoes.
I decided to reach out to him to get to know him a little bit better and found out that he was the father of a little girl who lived in my town where he lives some 2 hours away.
I decided to let go of my fear and be the person who I am. I decided to reach out to him and encourage him in his father-daughter time. Offering whatever I could to make their time special.
I decided to build a relationship with the hopes that he would respect my property and treated it well and leave it clean. I also decided to meet him and give him the key rather than leave it in a specified location which was my practice at the time.
When I met him and his daughter we bonded quickly. Myself having lived as a missionary in southern Mexico I found out that the little girlās mother was from the people group that I had worked with in Oaxaca. The dad was from another Mexican state from another indigenous group. They informed me that people look down on them all the time and he was a little nervous meeting me. They had gotten a few negative reviews, he knew it, but he was just a daddy trying to spend some quality time with this little girl. Of whom he was very proud by the way
We had a great visit going back and forth between Spanish and English. Little girl was bright and intelligent and ready to tell me all kinds of things about her school and what she was learning. I showed her some of the pictures I had of when I lived in Oaxaca
She also shared some of the negative things sheād heard from her teachers because her daddy was a tattoo artist.
This caused me to suspect that the few negative reviews were based on attitudes or prejudice of the hosts.
Just sayingā¦
Good job. Amazing what just talking to people can do. Too many people rely on a big corporate platform to do their job for them.
Yes! So many people would be better off if they did more of this.
I love this post so much I canāt stand it! One āheartā isnāt enough. Welcome to the forum and I hope to see you posting more. (this post is worthy of a stand alone thread)
I was called to be on a jury that was part of a custody dispute. One one side was a Hispanic tattoo artist dad and the other side was a white mom who was a hairdresser. She had a new boyfriend or husband and wanted to alter the custody agreement to move the little girl with her to another state/6 hours away. It was really interesting to me that in the voir dire they asked about biases against tattoo artists. I wasnāt on that jury but one of my former students was and I messaged her to ask the outcome. The tattoo artist dad won the case. I love my town.
So kind , thank you!
Realize of course that I am a nurse, and I was a missionary, and I would rather be a host than a landlord. I love Airbnb and the opportunity it gives me.
I have somebody who has booked my studio for 5 months and Iām a little disappointed that there wonāt be the given take for months with new people coming and going.
If you donāt leave an honest review, you are encouraging them to keep behaving this way. You can say it similar to how you did here, in a friendly encouraging toneā¦ I understand you needed to baby proof the cleaners, I wish you had replaced them & anything else you rearrangedā¦ etc.
I gave a review along the lines of the suggestions in this thread. They havenāt bothered to review me. I suspect they are casual users of AirBnB and not into the review thing.
If I stayed at friends house it would probably be freeā¦so yes I would clean nicely. . What you describing is super minorā¦they did a good job with toddler to leave house clean .
