Thrown off for absurd violation?

Do you know of any past renters who were gay couples? Out of all those properties, surely some gay couples have rented from you.

Can you contact them and ask them to write some kind of a support statement that they rented from you. And maybe you can gather evidence of the past booking confirmations and copies of the review? If I was gay, and found out someone was doing this, I would glady write a statement to help you prove that you do not discriminate.

Just an idea to discredit these jerks.

Also, you may want to gather evidence of past instant bookings that you also canceled due to over occupancy - just to show it’s the over occupancy that is the issue.

Hey happylittlehost. Honestly I am assuming this from the letter kicking me off. I assume they called in said I didn’t allow them to stay there because they were 4 gay men. They were 4 straight guys going to have 4 girls over. I can’t prove it. But we have all types of couples here. What ever you are as long as you leave our place in good condition god bless you.

Someone said they would be calling me soon. I did what you all said and contacted them over twitter. I will go through my contacts if I need to. That’s a good Idea cabin.

@Barry_Brachfeld - How do you know they intended to have four women who hadn’t been booked and paid for staying with them?

I said above they told me this when they called them on what’s app to communicate about check in. We don’t mind people over. We don’t mind dinner over. We just don’t want to see 8 people sleep here. Like it was a hostel.

I am assuming
"Only approved and registered guests may be on the property or in the rental unit"
is in your rules?

Are you making an assumption that they kicked you off over the gay people complaining? Do you know for sure?
I hope Twitter can at least give you an explanation of why you were booted, if nothing else.

I have not read the TOS lately about what ABB deems to be “commercial,” but I tend to think they booted you over the multiple listings and not over the gay guests. Are the guests still there? I would ask them to leave since they have snuck extra people!

No we declined there stay refunded there money and paid the $100 cancellation. This is about a gay complaint it is not about commercial. I am 100% positive. I’m optimistic this morning. Bookings are going well even though there are none through airbnb. We were renting before airbnb took off. For a lot of you in this boat I thought it would be a fad. I was like wow look at that the app made a noise someone is interested. Then it became like Pavlov dog that noise and that text. I gotten some other agents together and offered them some commission. Filled out the forms this morning to expedia. and there properties since we are legal here. Who ever said that about all your eggs in one basket I know that feeling. But there are other venues.

LOL! Me too! They have us trained!

Yes, try listing on TripAdvisor, Glamping Hub, and Wimdu. Air is not the only fish in the sea!

trip advisor Yes. They just raised there cancellation rates to $200 to a host ouch. Plus they added a cool off period. All this is new as of today there. Against us owners. Glamping hub I never heard of. Wimdu I got 1 hit in 5 years. They had a coupon. I’ll check out glamping. But this is to show what a strangle hold airbnb has on the market. You can say there the microsoft of the sector. I used to do all my business on home-away and vrbo. very little now.

Ya I woke up updating my calendars to have to agree to let them take another 50 bucks from us if we double book. And allow them to change there mind in a certain amount of time. Also they now have the right to disclose your information and get money for it.

WOW!!! Cooling off period!!! WTF!

Really??? Selling your info is in the TOS? You can’t opt out?

OK that made me laugh.
Confirmed potential booking, bahahhahaha.

So we hosts don’t get equal cool off time? We’re just locked into it?? Really disgusting.

I want a cooling off period in case I accidentally double book. We don’t get that on our side

Dear Magwitch,
instead of trying to reassure ourselves with a Mantra (everythingwillbealright everythinwillbealright) - I think we’d better meditate on this poem by German Pastor Martin Niemöller. He wrote them for the nazis, but the dynamics here look pretty much the same. Have a good read:

"First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

Dear Barry,
I am writing from Italy and -even if I know south America quite well, I have no clue about Colombia’s legal system, BUT my thought is: sue the guest.
Sue them for damages asking back the money they made you loose in confirmed reservations with their fake claim. This will put some fire in their house and give them a good reason to get back to Airbnb asking to reopen your case because they made a false statement. Show them you have legal teeth and you don’t hesitate to use them, just the US way. Airbnb is too big, but the guest is just a normal human being like me and you.
My 5 cents.

Hmmmm
a holocaust and Airbnb
I can totally see how you made that connection :frowning:

@helsi it’s metaphorical. Obviously the intent is not to suggest this situation is in anyway similar to the holocaust but rather standing with your fellow man even when it might appear to have no impact on you. I am straight. I nevertheless believe in equality and therefore you are just as likely to find me at gay pride as anywhere else.
