My guest is in JAIL!

This story is fascinating Cinderelle. I will never complain about my guests again! (well, yeah I will but remember this and think how much worse it could be). I hope you will update with how it all concludes? I agree with others that you sound like a very nice person indeed, and not just nice but super practical and unflappable, a Superhost for sure no matter what airbnb says.

She could have said 'Oh yes, I have just the person for you! His name is Damian and heā€™s wonderful. He only does after-dark gigs though and requires you to wear a ball and chain (lightweight). Heā€™s great! And very reasonable rates. Iā€™ve passed on your details to him".

An AirBNB down the street from me has this in his home rules:

We lend no more than $200 in bail money, so please be moderate in your indiscretions outside of the house.

I totally love this!

Seriously?? omg thatā€™s so funny! Please say itā€™s part of a humorous listing description! Can you give a link? I like places like that

I do believe he is being clever, and making his point. He has been doing this for a long time, and using the money to paint his house, board by board. The pictures only show the part he has finished.

What if someone took him up on the bail money!?? I could see them taking that seriously!

I could see him lending it.

I love his house rules. I kind of want to steal them.

I love where he describes himself as an ā€œunemployed malcontent.ā€ He is obviously not burned out (burnt out?) from hosting because his guests exclaim how he has picked them up from the airport or bus station, etc. ~ heā€™s obviously a people-person.

Not me (not I?). (arrgh!..I canā€™t believe English is my first language.)

Before I started Airbnb I tried my luck with a Craigslist roommateā€¦ his third day here he used his phone call from jail to leave me a message asking if I could come pick him up, he had been arrested for a DUI and didnā€™t know anyone else nearbyā€¦ as a result he lost his license and his job (because he couldnā€™t drive to work), and ended up spending the rest of the month he had paid rent for hardly ever leaving the house (mostly in his room), everything he ate was either delivery or junk food from the corner store. I felt bad for him, but it was really awkward for me to have him around 24/7ā€¦ clearly Airbnb verifications canā€™t prevent a DUI, but they do give me some sense of security about people!

thank you and AirBnB agrees with you that I am a superhost! I work very hard for that!

Thatā€™s unfortunate but donā€™t let his problem become yours. Rather than go through the trouble of getting another booking, I would leave the room empty (maybe do a bit of cleaning to prepare the check-out), but donā€™t interfere with his things. When check-out comes, if no one collects them (they likely wonā€™t), then do whatever ABB suggests, whether it be sending them to the police station, boxing them up or discarding them. Keep in mind, Iā€™m not from US so check any local laws that apply.

As for the other guest, if youā€™re uncomfortable with a guest I would just call ABB and let them know youā€™re uncomfortable with a guest. Sounds like you already dealt with it.Good luck!

@Cinderelle. So here is the key question: Did you or did you not have a number for his escort request?? - JUST KIDDING Elle; with your luck in guests, all within a few hours, hellā€¦ would you play the lottery numbers for me? You are the luckiest girl with wild stories.
Kidding asideā€¦ You did all the right things. Youā€™re a pro !!!

ā€œIllegitimus non carborundum estā€ comes to mind with (a very loose latin translation from an old employee of mine:) "Donā€™t let the illegitimate bastards get to you"
With that in mind and good thoughts going out your way ā€¦ be good and share the good with many others.

I am still trying to figure out exactly what the fellow hoped to accomplish with the ā€˜escortā€™ line.
