Clarifying New York State Rules for Upstate Hosts

Hello!

I am aware of the strict New York State guidelines that have been passed and now AirBnB has decided not to fight them.

My question is - do these rules affect upstate hosts, outside of the City? I have a single family house new Newburgh, NY, in the Hudson Valley, that I am hoping to put on the site soon and rent for a few days at a time.

I am being told conflicting information - that the overall State of New York rules apply upstate as well as in the City, and other people tell me they do not apply.

Does anyone know conclusively?

I believe it only applies to multi-family buildings, not to single family homes (yet).

You may have to get a license or permit and collect and pay local taxes.
